This cartoon, obviously, was done in advance of the recall election in which Walker prevailed. There’s plenty of Monday-morning quarterbacking going on, so here’s mine: A major factor in the failure of the recall was that a majority of voters never saw a recall as a legitimate vehicle for addressing their grievances. Most people in exit polls said the only legitimate reason to recall a politician was if they’d done something criminal, even though the state constitution says a recall can be held for any reason that motivates enough people to sign a petition. Lacking “high crimes and misdemeanors” even people who don’t like Walker voted for him, because they didn’t like the recall effort itself.
