civiliansCOLFirst, both sides are at fault in this conflict.  But Israel is the side funded by U.S. dollars and that professes to be trying to avoid civilian casualties.  Its bombing of schools and hospitals is horrifying to see and morally repugnant.  And, yes, Hamas betrays its own people when it continues rocket attacks that it knows will result in deadly retaliation that will Gaza’s children.


boxCOLThe Russian separatists are beginning to return bodies to the Netherlands, but the treatment of the remains and personal items has been inept and downright disgusting.  Once they’re analyzed we’ll see how well the black boxes were treated.


crashCOLPutin may not have launched the missiles himself, but by putting sophisticated weapons in the hands of separatist thugs he set in motion the series of events that culminated in this tragic loss of life.

Kickin’ the can down the road

asphCOLIsn’t it a little pathetic that congress can’t muster the will to pay for things we need even when both parties are pretty much in agreement?  This road bill uses stopgap budgetary smoke and mirrors, meaning the issue will be back again in 10 months.


betchaCOLEven the GOP is distancing itself from her–Sarah who?  But this makes you wonder why right-wing outlets like Fox  News continue to put her on the air when she, once again, is proving to be an embarrassment to the party.  I guess she still appeals to the all-important nut-bag faction of the base.

canCOLSince Obama’s first term he’s gone from optimism that a collective “we” could produce change, to a battle-weary recognition that his political opposition will actually sue him for attempting to do his job.  What a long, strange trip it’s been.  And what a gray-hair-inducing trip.

Run for the border
