Upon hearing of this latest security lapse, my wife asked if I thought these screw-ups would have occurred with a white president. It’s hard to believe that Secret Service agents would want to allow harm to any president in their charge, regardless of race. But as the incidents pile up it makes one wonder.
It really grates that this congress has done so little, but has still found time for a 5-week summer break followed by another breather to run for reelection. Sheesh.
It was a matter for the Scots to decide and it certainly threw a scare into the Brits. In the end, I think they decided wisely.
There’s been a lot of talk in the last few days of the U.S. working with “moderate” fighters in Syria. But today’s moderate is tomorrow’s terrorist in the constantly shifting alliances of the Middle East. You can’t, as they say, tell the players without a score card.

As Elizabeth Warren has pointed out, the Wall St. bank that Cantor is going to work for isn’t paying him $3.5 million for his financial insight and expertise. They’re buying a guy who still has sway with his legislative pals on the inside. Nice gig if you can get it.
