The automatic cuts to defense triggered by the failure of a bipartisan “super committee”  have, in turn, triggered howls of concern that the cuts will devastate the military.  Turns out that the “cuts” aren’t even cuts at all, but a slowing of the increase in defense spending.  What hysterical nonsense at a time when we are in a Great Recession and we’re spending as much on the military as during World War II.
