Move over

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

eatCOLOR Move overThe automatic cuts to defense triggered by the failure of a bipartisan “super committee”  have, in turn, triggered howls of concern that the cuts will devastate the military.  Turns out that the “cuts” aren’t even cuts at all, but a slowing of the increase in defense spending.  What hysterical nonsense at a time when we are in a Great Recession and we’re spending as much on the military as during World War II.

Sacred cow

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

oxC Sacred cowThe commission’s ideas are only suggestions at this point and are being met with howls of protest from both sides of the political aisle.  But what’s really appalling is that leaving the richest among us untouched, it perpetuates an ever-widening income gap in the U.S. that, ultimately, threatens our democracy.
